Canadian Videogame Awards: 2013 & 2014 Winners Announced

Canadian Videogame Awards Official Logo

Last night at The Carlu in downtown Toronto the fifth annual Canadian Videogame Awards were held, hosted by the wonderfully funny and charming Mark Meer (Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect trilogy). This was a unique year for the traditionally annual awards show since not only did it make the coast-to-coast move from Vancouver to Toronto but due to timing, it was host to the awards for both 2013 and 2014 awards. Mostly.

Because the nominations for 2014′s finalists were due in mid-November, several of the year’s largest games didn’t quality, leaving Canadian-made Assassin’s Creed Unity, Dragon Age: Inquisition, and Far Cry 4 out of the running entirely. For unknown reasons, Electronic Arts had no games listed a among the initial nominations either despite their strong mobile and EA Sports presence in Canada.

The event  itself however, succeeded without a hitch, produced beautifully by Carl-Edwin Michel. Meer and the series of presenters from EP Media, Canadian developers and video game actors (including Elias Toufexis, Jennifer Hale, Kate Drummond, and Roger Craig Smith) kept things moving quick and smoothly despite there being twice the amount of awards to give out.
